FirstNet Opens Innovation and Test Lab
The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) has opened an innovation and test lab at its technical headquarters in Colorado. This state-of-the-art laboratory will be the site for testing of features, device functionality, and apps of the future nationwide public safety communications network. The test lab is expected to help reduce the time it will take to field test and deploy the various public safety features of the dedicated LTE communications network for first responders. It will also serve as a foundation for a future FirstNet Training/Experience Center for hands-on training, demonstration, and user evaluation of FirstNet technologies.
“The opening of our lab is a great accomplishment for FirstNet in our efforts to deploy public safety’s network, and we’re proud to open it ahead of schedule and under budget,” said FirstNet CEO Mike Poth. “This will enable FirstNet to get advanced technology into the hands of our first responders and help them save lives and secure communities.”
