Small Alaska School Gets Connected Thanks to Apple, ConnectED

A small school in rural Alaska is getting connected, thanks to an educational technology grant from Apple Inc.

According to an article in Alaska Dispatch News, each student and teacher at the K-12 school in Nanwalek, Alaska, will receive an iPad. In addition, teachers will receive a MacBook Pro and the classrooms will have Apple TV.

Southeast Valley Community held a kickoff meeting to join Connect Iowa’s Connected Community Engagement Program. The meeting was held in Gowrie, IA with participants representing the school district, providers, library, and economic development. These leaders seek to boost the local economy, increase educational opportunities and quality of life for residents through increased access, adoption, and use of broadband.

Abbeville Becomes 2nd Connected Community

On October 9, at a private event at West Carolina Tel in Abbeville with more than 20 people in attendance, Connect South Carolina’s Jim Stritzinger and Leslie Callison announced Abbeville as a certified Connect South Carolina Connected community and presented the Abbeville County Economic Development team with an official Connected trophy and certificates.

Anderson County Joins Connected Community Engagement Program

Last Tuesday, Anderson County and the city of Palestine, Texas hosted their Connected Community Engagement Program kickoff meeting at the Anderson County Courthouse with over 20 people in attendance.

In the kickoff meeting, attendees discussed the need for turbocharging existing businesses, integrating virtual workplaces, incorporating broadband and technology in government, public safety, and integrating technology in the classroom.
