New Funding Opportunity Available for Alaska Native Villages
The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Administration for Native Americans (ANA) has announced the availability funds for community-based projects for the Social and Economic Development Strategies-Alaska (SEDS-AK) program for 2015.
Deadline for applications is March 25, 2015.
SEDS-AK provides support for projects that improve and strengthen the administrative and management capacity of Alaska Native Village governments, which as central to social and economic self-sufficiency in Alaska.

Connect Alaska’s work featured in Broadband Communities Magazine
Connect Alaska’s work with the Association of Alaska School Boards to help to improve students digital literacy skills has been featured in an article in Broadband Communities Magazine.
Specifically, the article talks about the work in Metlakatla, where the local school children are expanding their digital learning skills through the use of “robotics, drones, 2D/3D printers, e-publishing and digital entrepreneurship.”

FCC Increases Broadband Speed Target
Yesterday, the FCC voted to increase the national broadband availability target from 4 Mbps down/1 Mbps up to 10 Mbps down/1 Mbps up fixed. It could mean that faster Internet speeds will be coming sooner to communities across the nation.
Our efforts in Connected Nation states has brought quality broadband to more homes, schools, and businesses -- but as the graph below shows, there is still work to be done to meet these new goals.

Small Alaska School Gets Connected Thanks to Apple, ConnectED
A small school in rural Alaska is getting connected, thanks to an educational technology grant from Apple Inc.
According to an article in Alaska Dispatch News, each student and teacher at the K-12 school in Nanwalek, Alaska, will receive an iPad. In addition, teachers will receive a MacBook Pro and the classrooms will have Apple TV.
