GRANDVILLE - Shirley Burnham walked up to the small table set up outside an 18-wheeler emblazoned with the words “digital bookmobile” outside the Kent District Library Branch in Grandville and started checking out e-reader options with a discerning eye.

 

The Walker woman looked at the graph of e-readers and tablet computers that library patrons can use to download e-books and appeared to be leaning toward either the Amazon Kindle or the Barnes & Noble Nook after a moment.

 

“I’ve always though that with the Kindle or Nook, you had to buy the books,” said the 20-book-a-year reader, as to why she hadn’t replaced her ink on paper habit with a digital device yet.

 

“But to rent a book from the library is a lot cheaper,” she said.
