Governor Haslam Announces Workforce Development Grant Recipients
Governor Haslam's office awarded the Nashville Technology Council an $850,000 state grant to team up with Nashville State Community College, Columbia State Community College, and Vol State Community College to increase enrollment and graduation rates in their technology programs. The Labor Education Alignment Program (LEAP) money will help the Tech Council team deliver more skilled IT professionals to the market.

The FCC will host a webinar on Thursday, October 9 at 2 pm EDT. The webinar will provide information on completing Form 5610, which must be filed in order to apply for Rural Broadband Experiment funds.

CTN's Deanna Ward Serves as Keynote Speaker at AT&T Women in Telecom Golf Day

Deanna Ward, Connected Tennessee’s state operations manager for the West Tennessee region, served as keynote speaker of the 9th Annual AT&T Women in Telecom (WIT) Golf Day on September 11, sharing her journey as a woman in telecom, both personally and professionally, and the importance of supporting and encouraging young women in the telecom field through mentorships and scholarship.

FCC Announces Rural Broadband Experiments Webinar
Recently, the FCC released a Public Notice announcing a webinar to aid Rural Broadband Experiment applicants in filling out Form 5610. This form, recently approved by the Office of Management and Budget, will be used by applicants interested in bidding on the Rural Broadband Experiments.
The webinar is scheduled for Monday, September 29, 2014, at 2 p.m. EDT. More webinar information and application form details will be made available by the FCC shortly.

Connected Tennessee Presents on Youth and Technology at NBCSL 37th Annual Conference
Last Thursday, Connected Tennessee Executive Director Corey Johns was invited to present during a youth and technology session at the 37th Annual National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) Conference in Memphis. The session, “Preparing our Youth to Take the Nation’s Helm,” was created to showcase the nation’s best policy ideas for legislators to educate and prepare the new generation to achieve its potential.

Connected Tennessee Releases Business Survey Results
Last Thursday, Connected Tennessee released data collected from businesses across the state showing that more than an estimated $30 billion is earned in online sales, as more than three-fourths of businesses in Tennessee (76%) utilize broadband. An estimated 31,000 Tennessee businesses however remain disconnected.
