FirstNet Addresses Vertical Location

By Sarah Hagen

Acting Chief Technology Officer of FirstNet (the First Responder Network Authority), Jeff Bratcher, explains vertical location and how FirstNet is addressing this issue.

The "z-vector" or “z-axis” or “3-D Geolocation,” as it is referred to, is the idea of locating someone above ground (e.g., on the 18th floor of an office building) or below ground (e.g., in the subway). This information is vital to emergency response teams working in a disaster.
