Seniors are Getting Connected
The Internet is booming with young folks and millenials across the nation, but not with seniors, right?
Wrong.
E-Health services, telecare, and even staying in touch with family across the nation have encouraged more and more seniors to get online.
A new article by our friend Frank Odasz titled "The Silver Tsunami" explores this surge in online activity among seniors and points out the many benefits they've experienced from getting connected.

Alaska’s OWL Grant Extended for an Additional Year!
Since the launch of the federal Online with Libraries (OWL) project back in December of 2010, library officials have been working towards using the allocated $8.2 million to enhance public computer centers at 96 libraries in Alaska.

Homer Wins eCity Award
Google is giving Homer, Alaska some special attention!
The web giant has named Homer its Alaska eCity for 2013.
Google and independent research firm Ipsos MORI analyzed the online strength of local small businesses in cities in all fifty states. The city with the highest scores in each state was designated a 2013 Google eCity.

WATCH: Alaska's "Talk Story Write Story" Experience

In July of 2013, several senior high school students from rural parts of Alaska were invited to attend a college scholarship writing workshop as part of the Upward Bound Program in Fairbanks, AK. The workshop, entitled Talk Story Write Story, was led by Tad Bartimus Wariner and Dean Wariner of Hana, Hawaii, and partially funded by the Association of Alaska School Boards and Connect Alaska. Two teachers were also involved in the workshop, Megan Shaw from Bethel, and Jeanne Campbell from Chevak.

E-rate Reform Offers Key Opportunity to Further Close Digital Divide
The FCC is in process of reforming the Schools and Libraries Program of the Universal Service Fund -- better known as "E-rate." Last week, the FCC received comments from over 700 members of the public – educators, librarians, state and local government, industry members, and non-profit companies – including Connected Nation – all that are working to bridge the digital divide for our nation’s students.
