Omnicity Connects Columbiana County, Dedicates New Tower

Columbiana County recently welcomed a new resident – one that is made of steel and stands 250-feet high. The new piece of infrastructure will allow more than 300 households and business in the area to receive high-speed Internet access.

Available Wi-Fi Keeps Meigs County Firefighters Trained and Working

Many areas of Ohio are still in the midst of the digital divide – and emergency services personnel are no exception.

A volunteer fire department in Bashan, Ohio felt the brunt of the divide when firefighters began losing their certification.

“Three lost their fire certification because they had no Internet here and the certification had to be completed online,” said Luck McDaniel, a Bashan volunteer firefighter.

Stu Johnson serves as the Executive Director for Connect Ohio and Vice President, Digital Works. Stu leads Connect Ohio's involvement in state broadband and leadership initiatives with public and private sector stakeholders. He also manages existing Connect Ohio programs, including local broadband action planning, broadband inventory mapping and technical assistance, research, and community solutions support.

Matthew Diaz serves as Policy Specialist for Connect Ohio. Matthew supports the placement of Connect Ohio programming as well as developing and growing stakeholder relationships. Matthew also performs regular outreach and communication to develop new stakeholders and program placements. Matthew holds a bachelor of arts in philosophy and political science from the University of South Florida and is currently pursuing a juris doctorate from The Ohio State University.

Lisa McCuiston serves as project coordinator for Connected Nation.  Lisa provides administrative oversight for assigned projects which includes a variety of tasks. Lisa coordinates internal and external facing events/meetings, direct supervision to interns and assists with special event planning. Lisa will assist with grant research and writing, newsletters, blogs.

Heather Davis serves as a Virtual Facilitator for the Digital Works program. Heather is responsible for a wide range of training activities in a virtual setting. These training activities are designed to teach, develop, improve, and maintain individuals’ necessary skillsets, place them in entry-level job positions, and also prepare them for jobs requiring greater skills.
