Puerto Rico to Host the Code for America Program

Puerto Rico has been chosen to host Code for America, a program that brings web professionals together with political leaders to promote openness, participation, and efficiency in local governments.

Puerto Rico’s selection to host the non-profit program is a direct result of the Tech Summit Puerto Rico held in June, which featured Code for America representatives as speakers.

Free Digital Literacy Workshop in Puerto Rico

E-rate Reform Offers Key Opportunity to Further Close Digital Divide

The FCC is in process of reforming the Schools and Libraries Program of the Universal Service Fund -- better known as "E-rate."  Last week, the FCC received comments  from over 700 members of the public – educators, librarians, state and local government, industry members, and non-profit companies – including Connected Nation – all that are working to bridge the digital divide for our nation’s students.

Puerto Rico Awarded $1.4 Million for FirstNet

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) this week awarded $1.4 to Puerto Rico for the island’s First Responder Network Authority.

Known as FirstNet, the matching grant program administered by the NTIA is designed to assist regional, state, local, and tribal government entities as they plan for a nationwide public safety broadband network.

Commitments Announced for FCC’s Connect America Fund: Phase 1

On August 20, larger (“price cap”) local telephone companies began making commitments to the FCC to build out fixed broadband service to thousands of homes and businesses that do not have access to broadband service today. These commitments are part of the Phase I of the FCC’s Connect America Fund (CAF), which offers one-time, per-location payments to these providers to upgrade their networks. All told, more than 600,000 homes and businesses could see broadband network upgrades as a result of this program.
