The first Puerto Rico Tech Summit, held last month, brought together a cross-section of government leaders, entrepreneurs, technology players, and members of academia.

Puerto Rico Wireless Customers Introduced to Emergency Alerts

Alert on smartphone screenSome mobile carriers in Puerto Rico have begun implementing the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS), an alerting network designed to disseminate emergency alerts to mobile devices.

The system was actually deployed last week when a severe tropical storm embraced the island. This caused emergency warnings to be generated throughout most of the area.

Puerto Rico Crowdfunding Site Makes Significant Gains in Financing Projects

Antrocket.com, the Puerto Rico based crowdfunding site, has acquired more than 1,060 registered users and has successfully financed six projects during its initial four months of operation.

Antrocket.com has also launched a Spanish language version of its website to make it easier for its primarily Hispanic users to interact with the platform.

FCC’s Lifeline Broadband Pilots Test Strategies for Promoting Broadband Adoption among Low-Income Americans

Yesterday, the U.S. Senate passed the Agriculture Reform, Food, and Jobs Act of 2013, S. 954, by a vote of 66 – 27.  The Senate Farm Bill is the latest iteration of an omnibus authorization bill that is known as the “Farm Bill” that is reauthorized by Congress every five years.
